My Father's Dragon (Ruth Stiles Gannett)

This story begins when little Elmer Elevator finds an old alley cat. Elmer takes the cat home and the cat tells Elmer stories about a baby dragon that lives in a land called Tangerina. The animals in Tangerina treat the dragon terribly and they ride the dragon from island to island. Elmer feels bad for the dragon, so he decides to go and rescue the dragon. He packs all kinds of different things, including 6 magnifying glasses, tons of chewing gum, and a whole bunch of multicolored hair bows. What for you may ask? Read the book! I really enjoyed this book because it reminds me of the African folk tales about animals. The reason I think that is because the animals are like people. They talk, and have feelings like humans. The pictures in this book are beautiful! You should see the front cover of the book! They are so fun and colorful, that you want to read the book just from looking at the cover. Talk about judging a book by it's cover! If you enjoy books about talking animals and yellow and blue striped dragons, you should read this book. I recommend it for ages 7-10.

Hey Grace,

I just saw your blog in the Athens Banner Herald this morning. It's so exciting to see a local blog for kids by kids. I'm going to be starting a blog with third graders at Barrow this year. Perhaps you might have some pointers for them when we get ready to start :)

Hey Grace - I know you probably have a long list of books you want to review but I was thinking of recommending a graphic novel for something different. Lots of parents are reading your reviews in the newspaper and they might not know about any of them. I highly recommend the Little Vampire or any of the new Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew graphic novel books out there. Meanwhile, I love what you've got going on here. It's fantastic. Iread it weekly.
